Trivium - January 14th, 2012 - Ramshead Live!

We kicked off 2012 with Trivium. Not only did we see them at Ramshead Live! but we also were lucky to catch them for their acoustic set earlier in the day at Angel's Rock Bar. They along with Kyng, who are the opener on the tour, treated fans to three songs each. Trivium performed "Built to Fail", "Dying in Your Arms" and a cover of Iron Maiden's "Iron Maiden". Trivium is not a band that you would imagine doing anything acoustic but if you get a chance to see them perform that way, go see them!

Having seen Trivium a few times now, but mostly in the festival scene, I was definitely looking forward to the longer set as the direct support this tour. With five albums out now, it would be interesting to see how the set panned out but knew that regardless I wasn't going to be going home disappointed. I'm not one of those that is stuck on just one of their albums and if the band had decided to just play from their current release, well that would be fine as well.

Their set kicked off with "In Waves", the title track off their current album and from there transitioned into older material with "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr" from their 2005 release Ascendancy. As it was, my previous comments regarding their set were partially true as half of the set was made up of songs from In Waves with three coming from Ascendancy and two coming from Shogun.

All in all a nice solid set if one was to judge by the undulating pit on the floor on the club and the crowd surfers coming over the barricade. It will be interesting to see how their set changes for their next tour as they will be supporting Asking Alexandria and of course hopefully there will be a headlining tour not that far off.
