It's been 14 years since their first single and the Backstreet Boys show no sign of slowing down. In the midst of their year long This Is Us Tour, for their album of the same name the group made a stop at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City and earplugsrequired.com was there.

Did you know that Bamboozle is coming to you? You can catch the 2010 Bamboozle Road Show at a venue near you and Merriweather Post Pavilion had the honor of hosting the first show of the tour. Great way to kick off the summer (well almost summer) with two hometown bands sharing the stage - Good Charlotte & All Time Low.

Having recently completed a European tour with Dommin as direct support, the Finnish rock band H.I.M. are now promoting their new album Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice in North America. Earplugsrequired.com was happy to catch their Baltimore show at Sonar on March 27th, 2010. The chilly and dreary Baltimore weather did nothing to dampen the H.I.M. fans as they were lining up hours before the doors were to open.

Daughtry March 18th, 2010 @ 1st Mariner Arena
by Courtney Campbell
There are times and places where being number 1 isn't the best way to end. For Chris Daughtry that was definitely the truth as he came in 4th on the 5th season of American Idol. American Idol gave him the recognition and exposure needed and look at him now.

Well it's been almost 10 years since I've seen the Black Eyed Peas and what a difference. Back then they were the openers on No Doubt's Return to Saturn Tour which also featured Lit as direct support. Three albums, six Grammys and many top singles later - look at them now!

Muse March 1st, 2010 @ Patriot Center
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
It's just March 1st and Muse has definitely set the standard for 2010. With a production that was used in stadiums overseas, somehow they managed to fit this show on an arena stage. If Muse is going to be playing around you, don't pass on the chance to see them. Even if you only know Muse's singles, you'll leave this show with a greater appreciation of this band.

Soul Asylum December 4th,2009 @ First Avenue
by Courtney Campbell
It is said that you can never go back but that is exactly what I did ~ well back to Minneapolis, back to see Soul Asylum at First Avenue.

For whatever reasons, it had been quite awhile since I had seen Soul Asylum, a couple of years to be exact but as soon as those first notes were played, those years were stripped away and all that existed was me and a band that I absolutely love.

Brand New November 14th,2009 @ Electric Factory

A sold out club, this is where Brand New is totally in their element. While the direct support of Thrice was a good mix as far as the fans went, Thrice's set was lacking in something. As one waiting for Brand New to come onstage, you could feel the change in the crowd and knew that this was really who this sold out crowd came to see.

Creed August 16 & 21st, 2009 @ PNC & Nissan Pavilion
by Courtney Campbell
Reunion tours, they can be good or they can be bad. One tries to come back to the stage at the point they left off and that doesn’t always happen. So far this year we saw No Doubt come back just as strong as they left ( theirs really isn’t a reunion tour but they have been away for a bit) and just this past week we traveled to see Creed, twice..

Word out is that the concert industry is hurting but one couldn't tell that if they pulled up alongside the Recher Theatre in Towson MD on the 10th of July. With a line wrapped around the building this show was easily going to be a sell-out and shortly after doors opened it was. Tonight's bill included Enter Shikari and earplugsrequired.com was there to catch them in action.

Music genres come and go but through it all bands like The Prodigy are able to perservere. What is their secret? Just ask the sold out crowds at their current U.S. tour. Touring in support of their current album Invaders Must Die, the band made its first stop on the tour at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC.

After having to bail on their Baltimore show last Fall due to singer Anette Olzon’s loss of voice, Nightwish was back in Charm City, this time the venue of choice was Sonar. Chris Cornell April 5th, 2009 @ 9:30 Club

Ryan Star April 3, 2009 @ Towson University
by Courtney Campbell
It was a night of reality show singers with Rockstar Supernova's Ryan Star taking the stage first followed by American Idol's David Cook. Remember Ryan Star? He's the singer that was brought back on the show after eliminated because of fan votes to sing his origianl song and he won the car. So he didn't win the right to be the singer of Supernova but seriously did he need to do that? No offense to Lukas Rossi who did win but Supernova did the one tour and that was it. The show itself was a great way to showcase their talents so all in all they were all winners.

Avenged Sevenfold/Buckcherry/Papa Roach/Burn Halo March 21st, 2009 @ Hershey PA
by Courtney Campbell
Avenged Sevenfold, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Burn Halo invaded Hershey Pa on the 21st of March. This was a line up that was sure to pack an arena and considering the price of concert tickets, the $35 price was a bargin for this line up. Although each of these bands side towards the heavier side of rock, they have different fan bases which was definitely evident in the audience. Their were lines snaking around the building prior to doors opening for those wanting to get their places up close on the GA floor as well as those looking for that perfect spot in the GA seats.

Hall & Oates March 6, 2009 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell
One cannot think of pop music of the 70s and 80s without a mention of Daryl Hall & John Oates. The duo began their careers together in the early 70s and hit the top ten for the first time with "Sara Smiles" in 1976. The duo went on to have six #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: "Rich Girl", "Kiss on My List", "Private Eyes", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Maneater" and "Out of Touch", as well as many other songs that charted in the Top 40.

Take Action 2009 February 20th, 2009 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell
So the 2009 Take Action Tour was back to form when it rolled through Baltimore MD at Ramshead Live! on February 20th. Back in form? Yes, back to the genre that it's known for, the pop punk emo Warped genre! Last year's hardcore lineup just didn't do it. So here we had Cute Is What We Aim For, Meg & Dia, Breathe Carolina, Every Avenue and Anarbor.

Metallica January 15, 2009 @ Verizon Center
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
There might have been freezing cold temperatures in our Nation's Capital, but the Verizon Center was smoking hot as Metallica brought its tour for its current album, Death Magnetic, to town on January 15th. What a way to start 2009.

Kicking off their set with "That Was Just Your Life " and a laser light show, the crowd which included some of the Washington Capitals Hockey Team, started chanting long before the lights dimmed and didn't stop moving, pumping their fists, and singing along until the last notes of "Seek and Destroy " and then they clamored for more.

Taproot December 16, 2008 @ Fletcher's
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
Having seen Taproot over the years starting back in 2001 at Ozzfest, they never fail to amaze me. Why isn't this band bigger in the whole scheme of things? Playing a small venue in Baltimore on December 16th, they didn't even pack the place. Why? They have good stage presence, great vocals on their front man ,Stephen Richards, and great songs, but except for their hit single, "Poem", back in late 2002, they haven't been heard much.

Mudvayne December 11, 2008 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
For a band who hasn't toured in nearly three years, one couldn't tell by the show Mudvayne put on at Rams Head Live! on December 11th. Since this band has reinvented itself each time with their stage performance, many of us wondered prior to the show whether or not they would be in costume/makeup this time, especially since they did not on their previous club tour. Known for their theatrics, the makeup and lights are as much a part of Mudvayne as their music and tonight they did not disappoint.

Avenged Sevenfold December 9 & 10, 2008 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
A few months ago, Avenged Sevenfold had to cancel a string of dates due their front man M. Shadows' vocal problems. The Baltimore show was rescheduled for December 9th and EarplugsRequired.com was there for that show as well as the following night's show.

Now the makeup show should have been smooth sailing, but things started off with a delay of an hour and as the night went along, rumors started flying.

Shiny Toy Guns November 25th 2008 @ 9:30 Club

So another city (Washington DC), another venue (9:30 Club) and earplugsrequired.com was watching Shiny Toy Guns. Just over a month ago we were somewhere else watching them, well not really watching them, and decided to give them another chance. Glad we did.

While I'm not saying this is the band that I fell in love with, this is a band I could fall in love with and that's a start.

Stellastarr* November 9th 2008 @ Rock and Roll Hotel
by Katherine Gaines
Stellastarr* managed to draw an ecstatic crowd out to the Rock and Roll Hotel on a Sunday night. Playing just a few small east coast shows to preview songs from their upcoming album it was a special night for the fans.

The openers U.S. Royalty were local and had a few friends around to watch, but mostly the crowd stayed several feet back from the stage.

Filter October 30th 2008 @ Hard Rock Cafe
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
How appropriate is it that Filter kicked off their set with "Welcome to the Fold". Or maybe it should be "Welcome Back to the Filter"? About 6 months ago, we ran a review of the Filter shows in Washington DC/Baltimore and there seemed to be something missing. Typically a Filter show would have been sold out and the band back then seemed very disconnected on stage.

Yelle October 13th 2008 @ 9:30 Club
by Katherine Gaines
You don't have to sing in english to make people dance. French pop singer Yelle proved that on Oct 13, at the 930 club. She laughed at the audience's pathetic attempts to sing "A Cause Des Garcons " to her, clearly they knew the melody but the words (aside from the name of the song) were a mystery.

Staind October 4th 2008 @ Merriweather Post Pavilion
by Courtney Campbell
Having recently release The Illusion of Progress, Staind were back out on the road on a tour that would last them a couple of months, this time with Papa Roach and Seether in tow. The tour kicked off at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD and of course we were there. Being an outdoor venue and October 4th, one can never predict the weather, a little bit chilly but perfect for a rock show.

State of Shock kicked off the night though they weren't listed originally on the bill. We had seen them the week before on tour with Seether but really hadn't paid much attention to them as we were getting to the venue when they were on stage. Definitely have to check them out.

Lukas Rossi August 30th 2008 @ Bedrock, Baltimore MD
by Courtney Campbell
So you know the premise. Band uses a reality show to find a new singer. There are 12 people wanting the job and one of them wins and gets to tour with that band. Now that the band is no longer, what's the singer to do? Go on tour and that's what Lukas Rossi who won the Rockstar Supernova gig did

Ted Nugent August 26th 2008 @ Ramshead Live!, Baltimore MD
by Courtney Campbell
What a warrior! Having recently played his 6000th show earlier this summer, Ted Nugent just continued on touring and recently made a stop in Baltimore at Ramshead Live! Now we all know how "Uncle Ted" is and if you didn't you were definitely in for an awakening this night. Ted doesn't pull any punches. He plays a solid show and he tells it like it is, well at least how he sees it.

Pepper August 24th 2008 @ Pier 6, Baltimore MD
by Courtney Campbell
So when I saw the police and security outside the venue surrounding a kid with a bloody face during the first of three bands, I just knew this was going to be a crazy night. The Tailgate 2008 Summer Tour featuring Pepper and Slightly Stoopid was stopping in Baltimore at Pier 6. By the time Slightly Stoopid went on, over 300 people had been thrown out of the venue; most of them were for underage drinking.

Good Charlotte August 23rd 2008 @ Sonar, Baltimore MD
by Courtney Campbell
Well a summer shed tour with Boys like Girls, like everything else, had to come to an end and there shouldn't have been a more perfect spot than "home" for Good Charlotte. They mentioned many times during their set how it was great to end this summer tour at "home" as they ran through their set on August 23rd at Sonar in Baltimore. While it might have been good for them to be home, there was just something missing.

Puddle of Mudd brought their tour to Baltimore on August 21st bring along Saving Abel, Rev Theory and Pop Evil. Ramshead Live! was packed and Baltimore was ready to rock out!

Kicking off the night was Pop Evil. You haven't heard of them? Give it time. Debuting songs from their recently released Lipstick on the Mirror, the band had the stage presence and set up of a more seasoned band. This is a band that has high expectations and isn't afraid to reach for them.

You get the Rockstar Mayhem Tour, yet another successful tour assembled by Kevin Lyman. In its inaugural edition it featured Slipknot, Disturbed, Dragonforce and Mastodon on the main stage while bands such as Machinehead, Underoath, Five Finger Death Punch, Walls of Jericho and others tore it up on the two side stages.

Virgin Mobile Festival 2008 August 9th & 10th, 2008 @ Pimlico, Baltimore MD

The 2008 Virgin Mobile Festival is over and all that remains are the memories each of us has of two days jam-packed with sights and sounds. With the weather expecting to be about 20 degrees cooler than the previous year, the weekend was looking to be great. Both days were filled with bands on two stages as well as a DJ tent and other sights to be seen - art, planetary awareness, voter registration, etc. There was literally something for everyone.

With all the summer concerts out there and the price of tickets rising, what better way to see a group of bands than one of the touring festivals. Linkin Park put together a great lineup with Projekt Revolution 2008 and earplugsrequired.com was there again.

So as we pulled up to the venue, the skies opened up with cloud to ground lightning and nickel to quarter sized hail. The crowd in line at the gates scrambled for coverage as they were basically sitting ducks.

Rockin' the Colonies - The Alarm & The Fixx July 10th 2008 @ 9:30 Club, Washington DC

With the concerts that have been popping up lately, one would think we suffered a time warp! Having seen Duran Duran earlier in the summer and Yaz coming up in a week it was so appropriate that we would be seeing the Rocking the Colonies tour when it kicked off in Washington DC on July 10th. This year's rendition brought The Alarm, The Fixx and The English Beat to the 9:30 club.

With the 40+ dates of Crue Fest having just kicked off, Papa Roach & Trapt filled in their off day on the 4th of July with a show at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Sponsored by a local radio station and billed as the after fireworks party, the sold-out show was definitely the place to be on the 4th. Being that both bands play fairly early on Crue Fest, this was a chance for their fans to catch longer sets by their favorite bands and also be in a venue that no matter where you stood/sat, you had a great view. (kudos to the venue, great sightlines and sound)

Blondie June 5th 2008 @ Ramshead Live!

IIn 1978 Blondie released Parallel Lines. The album peaked on the Billboard Album Chart at #6 and included Blondie's first #1 hit, "Heart Of Glass." The album also included the hit "One Way Or Another" as well as "Hanging On The Telephone" and "Sunday Girl." The single "Heart of Glass" ended up being the first American #1 New Wave single and the album itself has sold over 20 million copies. With the 30th anniversary of Parallel Lines EMI is re-releasing this iconic album on June 24th.The commemorative CD/DVD release adds four bonus audio tracks, three classic music videos and a previously unreleased TV performance from the BBC's "Top Of The Pops" to the album's original tracklist, as well as a booklet containing the original album photo session. The band also took to the road to do what they do best, perform to sold-out performances across the U.S. and Europe on the band's "Parallel Lines 30th Anniversary Tour." Filter/Ours/Opiate for the Masses May 29th & June 2nd 2008 @ 9:30 Club & Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell & Michelle Lee
It's been a few years but Richard Patrick is back on the road under the moniker of Filter. The music and lyrics are the same as basically Richie is Filter but those backing him on stage have changed. For those that have followed Richie's career as Filter, these changes are nothing new as members have come and gone through the years. With a brand new album out, Anthems for the Damned and a new outlook on life in general after rehab, Richie is out there doing what he does the best - perform on stage. The tour made a stop in Washington DC at the 9:30 Club on May 29th and in Baltimore at Ramshead Live! on June 2nd and even though the size of the crowd was lacking, those in attendance had a great time.

Jagermeister 2008 May 18th 2008 @ Ramshead Live!

Jagermeister might be known for it's unique taste, for Jager Bombs and Red Headed Sluts, but its name is also synonymous with heavy rock music. The 2008 Jagermeister Tour was no exception. With Hatebreed and Type O Negative as headliners, this tour was bringing the heavy of the heavy to towns across the nation. The third stop on their tour was Baltimore at Rams Head Live! and EarplugsRequired.com was there.

With all the road trips EarplugsRequired has been taking lately, we’ve been taking CDs with us for those parts of the country that don’t get any radio reception and Apocalyptica’s Worlds Collide has spent much time in the CD player. First off I have to say I LOVE MxPx! That being said, when they didn't have any tour dates in the mid-atlantic region near us of course that meant a road trip to northern New Jersey to see them. Bamboozle here we come!

So MxPx was to play around 5 and we decided to get there around noon so we could hang out and also see a few other bands along the way. Unfortunately the traffic patterns in Delaware weren't included in our planning.

Wind up Records has a new artist that is starting to make waves. They are Thriving Ivory and earplugsrequired.com caught their set at Sonar Lounge on May 4th. Think back to when rock music had melodies with meaningful lyrics, strong keyboard playing and unique vocals (okay all of you in your late 30s to 40s, no this is not Journey but I did hear a little bit that sounded like them in the one track "Day of Rain"), now fast forward to 2008 and you have Thriving Ivory.

Each band on this tour complemented each other nicely and made it a great night for the fans. The evening start off with God or Julie from New York City. What a difference! That is seriously the easiest thing I can say about going to see Hurt at the Recher on March 12th. Having heard them on myspace and the radio I had wanted to check them out and had been totally disappointed the last time they came through town. Not one to rely on just one exposure to a band I was off to see this band again and was pleasantly suprised.

Justice March 12th 2008 @ 9:30 Club

Justice at the 9:30 Club was one of the danciest shows I've seen there. (Its true, D.C. audiences don't generally like to move.)

Busy P got the night started with a high energy set of electro and 80s and the crowd responded well. He got plenty of shouting, bouncing, and singing along. However, the energy level fell when rapper Wale came on. It wasn't due to lack of effort, or lack of talent.

Linkin Park February 19th 2008 @ 1st Mariner Arena

The dream of many kids learning to play guitar or prancing in front of a mirror with a faux microphone is to play in front of a sold out crowd singing along to their songs and chanting their name; Linkin Park has lived their dreams and then some. After a very successful Projekt Revolution tour this past summer, the band was back out on the road with an arena tour bringing Chiodos and Coheed & Cambria along for the ride. For the near sold-out crowd in Baltimore on February 19th, it was a rock show to remember. Probably one of the best that these concert goers have seen in the past year.

The Color Fred February 9th 2008 @ Sonar
by Courtney Campbell
The last time The Color Fred came through town, they played the Ottobar and for whatever reason, there really wasn't a crowd. One would have thought with the following that Taking Back Sunday has, The Color Fred (frontman Fred Mascherino was the guitarist for Taking Back Sunday) would have been able to at least fill the venue 3/4 full. STYX January 20 2008 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell
From the opening sounds of "Blue Collar Man" to the end of "Renegade" Ramshead Live! was full of energy as the band STYX showed Baltimore that rock music isn't dead! A current t-shirt that they are selling displays that in black and white "Classic Rock - my ass! 1100 shows in 10 years"

Shaw/Blades December 2nd 2007 @ Sonar
by Courtney Campbell
So Shaw/Blades was back through my area recently. They had two shows booked about equal distance from where I live. One was in a small seated venue where I had seen them before and the other was in a venue I frequent but its much bigger and not seated. I op'd for the larger venue as to see something different. This was definitely different and better in the aspect that we could move around and the stage was bigger for the artist.

Chiodos November 18th 2007 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell
You don't have to have a number one album sit atop of the charts for weeks on end (well their recent release did debut at #5 on Billboards Album Chart)or have a hot single being played on the radio every hour to have a great following. Chiodos has proven that.

Avenged Sevenfold November 15th, 2007 @ Electric Factory
by Courtney Campbell
Okay where do I begin. All that know me know that I love Avenged Sevenfold's music; the band itself, the jury is still out on. That being said, of course when the tour dates were announced and the Baltimore/Washington area wasn't included, that meant a road trip! I should add I suppose that this week I was on vacation and at first was going to go visit a friend in California. Well that was until these dates were released and my plans changed. See I told you, I love their music.
