Foo Fighters - November 10th - 11th, 2011 -Philadelphia/Washington DCThere are always those concert experiences that stand out in our minds over the years. This current Foo Fighters tour has definitely grabbed it's place in our memories as two of the best concerts we have seen. Playing in Philadelphia on a Thursday and Washington DC on a Friday, two sold out nights filled with sold rock and roll. Kicking off their set with "Bridge Burning" and "Rope" off their most current release Wasting Light, the Foo Fighters started a set that would last over two and a half hours. The set flowed through their sixteen year career, never dragging as sometimes long sets can. The shows might have been in arenas that held over 19,000, but each and every person, Interspersed throughout the night were little anecdotes from Grohl, which became even more personal during the Washington DC show as it was considered the "hometown show". He talked about the recording of their third album There is Nothing Left to Lose in his home studio in Alexandria, which spawned the single "Learn to Fly". That single went on to earn the band a Grammy. Dave told the crowd about being at the Grammy's that year, receiving the award and thinking about how this was a self-recorded album that didn't cost them a thing. It was little glimpses into the world of the Foo Fighters that brought this band closer to the fans these nights. A little over two hours after their set started, the encore began with Grohl, solo and acoustic, out on a platform at the soundboard. He started off with "Wheels", which he explained was a huge hit in Germany. From there, he continued into an acoustic version of "Best of You" and then "Times Like These", which halfway through became a plugged-in version as the rest of the band returned to the stage. The night ended with "Dear Rosemary" from their current album, which then transformed into "Breakdown". The Foo Fighters were joined on stage by Bob Mould for this. He is also Dj'ing in between sets on this tour. Finally the final song of the night, "Everlong" began and the set was coming to a close nearly two hours and forty-five minutes after it began. I have said many times before about how good the Foo Fighters are live, so if you haven’t seen them before, please go see them. I write this review up not because I have to but because I want to share what a great experience a Foo Fighters show can be.
