The Color Fred February 9th @ Sonar
by Courtney Campbell

The last time The Color Fred came through town, they played the Ottobar and for whatever reason, there really wasn't a crowd. One would have thought with the following that Taking Back Sunday has, The Color Fred (frontman Fred Mascherino was the guitarist for Taking Back Sunday) would have been able to at least fill the venue 3/4 full. That just wasn't the case. This time around they were playing second on a bill of four bands and it was good to see many in the crowd singing along to their music. Now where were these fans back when they played the Ottobar? Who knows but I think they will gain quite a few more fans being on a tour that is playing to many sold out venues across the nation.

Even though Fred is a known entity, being the second band out of four on this tour is probably the right place to be at this point. Unfortunately that means that their set was relatively short - comprising of 6 songs - just over half the songs in their debut album Bend to Break out on Equal Vision. This short set gave the crowd a nice example of what Fred and his band are capable of and definitely left them wanting more. Hopefully that will amount to a larger fan base when they come through this area again.
