Take Action 2009 February 20th, 2009 @ Ramshead Live!
by Courtney Campbell
So the 2009 Take Action Tour was back to form when it rolled through Baltimore MD at Ramshead Live! on February 20th. Back in form? Yes, back to the genre that it's known for, the pop punk emo Warped genre! Last year's hardcore lineup just didn't do it. So here we had Cute Is What We Aim For, Meg & Dia, Breathe Carolina, Every Avenue and Anarbor.

The annual Take Action Tour is one that promotes awareness for social issues and encourages the youth of today to get involved. According to their press release " For the second straight year Take Action has chosen not-for-profit organization DoSomething.org to benefit from the funds raised and to help spread the message of action to young people across the country. DoSomething.org is a national not-for-profit that believes that young people have the power to make a difference. They inspire, empower and celebrate a generation of doers: young people who recognize the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action."

Dia of Meg & Dia With a full night of music, doors were early and the bands kicked things off earlier than expected (club posted a different time than what was actual). These two items didn't deter the mostly underage crowd as there was quite a line waiting even an hour before doors were to open. The lineup was one which caters to mostly under 25 crowd. Most of the older persons were ones that were chaparoning kids. It was also one of which three of the bands on the bill melded together in sound; only two really stood out.

The first being Meg & Dia. Named so for the sisters of Meg & Dia Frampton. They gave a breath of freshness to the lineup smacked right in the middle of the night. Their set combined older songs such as "Roses" and "Monster" along with songs like "What If?" and "Black Wedding" from their soon to be released album Here, Here and Here. Known also for the cover songs they do, they didn't disappoint with the cover of Blind Melon's "No Rain".

Breathe Carolina

The other band that stood out was Breathe Carolina. Hard to say band but they were definitely a force to be reckoned with as they combined electronics and screaming with flashing lights and fog. It was definitely senses overload and a difficult set to try to photograph. Their being different though is what made them stand out from the rest and will be something to propel them forward. It will be interesting to see how their stage show translates to the daytime set times of the Vans Warped Tour which is where you can catch them this summer.
