So another city (Washington DC), another venue (9:30 Club) and earplugsrequired.com was watching Shiny Toy Guns. Just over a month ago we were somewhere else watching them, well not really watching them, and decided to give them another chance. Glad we did.
While I'm not saying this is the band that I fell in love with, this is a band I could fall in love with and that's a start. I know that with changes in a band lineup a band does change and the band I saw earlier on this tour did not live up to my expectations but with more live shows under their belts and a bit of give on my side, we met in the middle. I enjoyed the set that combined songs from their earlier release We are Pilots and their current release Season of Poison while of course throwing in the crowd favorite cover of "Stripped".
The overall feel of the set was upbeat with the fog and lighting adding to the music instead of detracting from it. The interaction between the two singers, Chad Petree and Sisely Treasure was smoother and if I hadn't seen Shiny Toy Guns with their former female singer, Carah Faye Charnow, I probably wouldn't have even made a comment about it. What drew me into this band to begin with was Charnow's voice, her stage presence and her interaction with Petree. She really was one who could captivate a crowd on her own. While Treasure is coming into her own with Shiny Toy Guns, I don't believe she will ever be the powerhouse that Charnow was with this band but maybe that's the plan.
